day twenty-six

today is free and easy sunday. woke up late for the first time for this trip and i feel very refreshed for the much needed sleep and rest. me, nicholas, kang liang and penghoe went to buy my JANSPORT bag which i truly like. so now i have new bag and shoes for year 2. i feel very very happy with myself.

though im left with very little money, we still went to eat at a sushi restaurant. haha. kang liangnbeing mr nice guy paid for me. LOL. peng hoe went to shop at a store called cool max. he bought alot and a bag price 89yuan. it was a worth deal. after that, we went to pick up our laundry and put out things at dorm and went to the bbq which was organised by the china students here. the food was alright but i was freezing cold to enjoy it. after awhile, some of us decide to eat at a fishball restaurant opposite. the food was alright and we enjoyed it.

i learn how to spend money thriftly and save money and plan on how my money is spent so that i have enough to last me for the next two weeks. lets hope i have money for food.

miniproject proposal due. shall do it now! hehe

day twenty-five

in the morning, we set out for a 2hours drive to hankou. mr chua had warned the previous night to dress warm and bring umbrellas and raincoats but being students, rebellious too, haha. most of us didnt bring and we were freezing cold and to make it worse, it was raining. hais. my fingertips and toes were frozen. damn. we went shopping there but mostly there were only branded items which mostly none of my clique was interested in. so we found a shopping mall and slacked at starbucks due to its warm environment and i shared signature hot chocolate with kangliang. yummy and warm. after that, we went shopping and nicholas, arvind and kangliang bought PLAYBOY jackets which i saw was very cool on them. we got a lucky draw and a small gift which was a very small blue gem. we won a drink at the lucky draw. haha how unlucky.

we meet back at three pm and we took bus but due to som reasons, i got motion sickness for the first time during this trip. it was unexpected and i totally hate it. from now on, whenever there are long journeys, im going to eat the medicine that mr chua gave me and bring it anywhere i go. sorry if i had caused delay. the driver finally alight us at the yellow crane tower where we shopped at a nearby shopping mall. the plac sells cheap things and many people were buying things. i only bought a cap and a new screen protector for my phone due to my intention of buying a beg here whihc requires a few hundreds.

for dinner, me arvind and kangliang went to eat at a shop which sells burgers then we took a cab home. i sleep throughout the ride again because i wanted to avoid motion sickness again. the ride cost around 50 yuan +.

oh, i bought two shoes at a shop while going to the eating place. too much temptations. cant resist :x

day twenty-four

went to visit yangtze optical fibre and cable company. we learned how the fibre rod is being treated and made into cables and all. rather confusing for me. so i just follow through a tour which was around the area. some of the processes were private and they were afraid of leak outs, we were only allowed to see the processes from the corridors. there were also the video demonstration and a guide explaining everything which mr chua was translating for those non chinese speaking students. im very grateful to him so i did put in a little effort to listen as i really do appreciate his efforts.

after that, went to eat at a restaurant and went to kfc for desserts. yummy. at 4pm, we had our thoery test. it was hard. hopefully i can pass. shal study harder for the next upcoming test. th days are getting so cramped with test projects deadlines coming up. hais

assignment one

name : nur khairunnisa diyana binte abdul hamed (S10062551G)

I want to learn and speak Chinese so as I would be able to at least communicate proper during the china trip and there would be no language barrier stopping me. Learning a new language such as Chinese is similar to learning a new skill. If you have an extra language in hand, you can use it in during your working life. In Singapore, knowing Chinese gives you the extra edge which employers are looking for in their employees. Learning Chinese here is good as the locals here mostly Chinese-speaking. Learning from them would gain me knowledge and new friends. I already know the basics of Chinese such as hao means good and hao chi means delicious which I pick up these small phrases from watching Chinese dramas on channel 8 in Singapore. I realized even watching dramas can help you in some ways. I want to know how to converse more fluently in Chinese so that I would not feel left out when they host parties or outings and mostly the students in WUST know only Chinese. Learning a new language motivates me to learn it. I want to learn something new so that I would be able to gain an edge during the working life.

My focus for this trip would be the food and culture in china. There are a few delicacies in china which I am rather interested in trying on which is the duck neck or the fishball soup in china. According to a few acquaintances, the food is worth trying and since I might only visit china for only one time in my life, so it is definitely worth trying. The culture I am trying to focus on in china is how the people in china react and communicate. The china people, I heard, they are rather rude and have no basic manners such as cutting queues or even spitting on the floor or throwing rubbish which they regard everywhere is a dumpster. The hygiene here is rather very uninviting but nonetheless, china is a place where I would gain a lot of knowledge and experience.

How do china people communicate or even stand each other when they talk loudly and rudely?

Why is it that the government does nothing to help the environment to at least be appropriate for people to live in as the places in china is mostly infested by pests caused by people dumping rubbish everywhere?

How come china people are allowed to drive freely with no law or regulation to stop them such as driving in the opposite lane?

What are the few delicacies in china and what are the foods usually eaten by the locals?

Why are they a lot of pickpocket incidents happening in china?

1. I would like to learn Chinese and speak in that language more fluently as employers in Singapore nowadays are looking for Chinese speaking people. If I have an extra language in hand, I would have an edge against others and perhaps would be able to secure a better job in the future.

2. I would like to learn the business etiquettes and strategies done here in china as I heard there are a lot of opportunities here and china might be even the next hot places for business in the near future.

3. I would like to learn independently and living with strangers without depending on others. If I would have to go for overseas trip again in the future, I would be able to take care of myself and be able to handle things well.

I would like to learn Chinese from the students here by conversing with them. Making friends would be a start and then I would be able to be more open to learning something new from friends. There are talks about business etiquettes and strategies which is vital to my learning. Doing a summary for the presentations has made me learn more and understood the way the china people here do their business. Lastly, staying in a dorm with roommates is hard at times as we sometimes have slight disagreement with each other. But nonetheless, we learn to be more tolerable and learn how to live with each other and being more independently such as washing our own clothes.

day twenty-two

had appg for the whole day. we had a trial theory test which i only know how to do half of the paper. not proud of myself or with the achievement or improvement that i have made so far. must revise and study harder so as to achieve results which please my parents and my lecturers. JIAYOU!

after class, some of us went to lu xiang plaza mainly to exchange money and to buy plastic forks. i saw a jansport bag which cost rmb338. i really like the beg but im guessing its too expensive and i doubt i would be able to afford. if i have enough spare cash by the end of this trip, i shall go there and buy that oh-my-beautiful beg.

we spent the rest of the day at the plaza. we ate a sushi restaurant. the food was rather nice. shall go there again as we have discount vouchers to use. lastly we went to the arcade and played the game there. and finally we went home with a smile. i really treasure this day which i enjoyed tremendously.

day twenty - one

was the second batch for the lab test today. was rather proud of myself as i managed to complete evrything even though i was struggling slightly when comes to converting integers and times together all the variable.s but after a few trials and errors, i finished the whole thing. in my happiness and joy, i forget to put asterix symbol but its okay. lets hope mr ma dont minus too much on it.

the afternoon lesson was rather slacked as we had a small breifing and a very long break and during the time mr ma was teaching on the summaries and all, i wasnt paying attention. shall pay attention from now on as there is a thoery test coming up tomorrow and i still havent think of a project title for my mini project.

after appg, rushed to the night market as a form of celebration for today's lab test and mostly, i need to buy things for myself and for my friends. i bought rather alot of things such as belts. but i still havent bought a backpack. shall go there again.

had briefing a night about being a host and this weekend's barbeque. shall hope everything goes well, and according to mr chua just now. left 2 weeks and a few more days to go. shall finish up my assignment one soon which i have yet to start. shame on you diyana. i still have not upload pictures.

soooooon. i promise ((:

day twenty

day nineteen

the pictures below are taken during the process of day nineteen and eighteen

woke up late today for check out. supposed to meet at 6.30am but woke up at 6.30am. rushed but then realised there are also some groups who are late. was rather thankful we are not the only ones who were late. board the bus and went to wudang mountain where we took a cable car to the top of the mountain. queued for more than hour. the china people have no sense of politeness or a sense of guiltyness when cutting queues. some are smart, some uses their elderly status to cut the queue or make use of their children to cut queue. thank god for us we have a very HOT, PRETTY and FIERCE tour guide who i really like. finally we got onto the cable car and we were greeted by a magnificent view. it was scary at first but i got used to the height and enjoyed myself tremendously.

we finally climbed the mountain and reached the top of it. it was windy and we had to climb very steep staircases but it was worth the climb. the view from the top was beautiful and we took alot of pictures for memories.

went down form the mountain by cable car too. im starting to love cable car and heights. ((: went to eat at a different restaurant and we had a 7hours journey back home. reach school at around 10.30pm. tired and sleepy.

tomorrow lesson starting at 10am. thank you mr ma and mr chua. shall have a good night rest tonight. ((:

day eighteen

so we went to wudang mountain. the bus journey was like 7hours. slept through out the whole bus trip. we had lunch first at a restaurant and went to a place where we board a bus which took us to several places at wudang. it was rather amazing when we reached the prince temple if im not wrong where we see students practicing wushu at a young age. i see them practicing wushu so hard but still cant get perfection and then getting scolded by their shifu.
in my opinion, at their age which i think the youngest was around seven years old. they should be having fun, playing with friends instead of getting scolded and hit by their shifu at their age and those who are older should be studying. i seriously see no future or no end to their poverty if they had continued on. if its their passion to learn wushu, i would strongly support. but some students look like they were forced. i sympathised them so much. i even saw they were forced to jump every steps on a flight of stairs. hais.

anyway, had dinner at the same restaurant, and then went to check in at a hotel which in my opinion is not that bad compared to a hotel which is directly opposite the one we are staying. the hotel opposite looks more like a haunted place to me la. shocking and scary. shared the room with khoonfong and yongxin.

day seventeen

so had appg as usual. finished off lab four with a little help with the codes. im still a little blur. must study alr! hm, then straight away after class ended went to this night market. took cab and it cost us RMB30. alot of stuff! i bought shirts, belts, a vest! and a wallet for my sister. felt tired and went back hostel. then wenhao's group came back. i saw all the items they bought because they went to the same place as us. OMG. they bought alot of nice things expecially caps and necklaces. OMG. shall go with them most probably going next tuesday. release stress since that day have test. haha

going mountain tomorrow.i heard theres a 7hours journey. so sad la. hais! shall pack my beg and go to sleep early. two days one night trip. cant wait. i hope it will be a nice and smooth journy and i really aim to clim to the top of the mountain. i hope it would not be much of a problem since i climed mount kinabalu before. JIAYOU DIYANA! ((:

oh and today recieved my results. i sort of expected it to be not outstanding but all passes so im still fine. i was rather slacked so having this kind of results was expected but disappointing. 2.5 GPA )):

day 16

had appg. routine everyday classes till 4plus. i decided to run today as i feel so unfit and hm, unhealthy and slightly fat since i have been eating non stop since i came here. so i went for a jog at the tracks with kangliang. i jog 6rounds! and walked 2rounds. haha. i really have lost my stamina. shall train again and be fit by the end of this trip. that shall be one of my goals for this trip. i had troubles doing lab 4 today for appg. i really gets so confused with all the codes. shall ask for help from the guys tomorrow. hm, i just remembered tomorrow is results day. lets hope everything turns out fine for me :x

Wednesday, March 18, 2009

day fifteen

had lesson at 8am as there was a talk about china business strategies. it was rather boring and i was only half listening. sorry. it ended at around 11plus and then lunch. class resumed at 1pm and ended at 3pm as we were supposed to go to this it mall. i was a bit unenthusiastic as i have nothing to look for. however, as i was forced to go, might as well be optimistic about it. the place there sells alot of webcams, mp4s selling at prices which are similar in singapore or even more expensive. i didnt buy anything as nothing catches my eye. then we went to eat at this shop which sells chicken burgers at low prices. mmmhhmm appetizing. went to walk on to another mall, shop around and finally took a cab back. had meeting and good night. i learned that in china we should bargain for better pricing such as cutting the price into half. and we should always keep looking for good things as they come to us as a surprise.

Tuesday, March 17, 2009

day fourteen

had to wake up early in the morning to go to a steel factory at around 7.15am. it was a long a bumpy ride. met up with LSCT students and then off we went into the factory with helmets which seriously i dont recommend wearing. we had a about 15mins walk across the whole thing. it kind of showed the whole process how they were made. i find the trip very unfruitful as we took a long bus ride and we only walked for a few minutes in the factory without actually knowing whats happening or what each process actually is all about. no one was there to guide us. after the trip, we had a very long bus ride as there was traffic jams everywhere. i ate at pizza hut and surprisingly, it was nice. shall eat there again. and then walk around and came back to sch for lesson at 3pm. appg as normal. shall finish off lab 3

Monday, March 16, 2009

day thirteen

had appg today as normal. today we had finished off chapter three. im still blur about it but shall review it tonight or tomorrow. i have finished off my lab two and still have one last mistake. shall edit it later on. so we ended class early today around 3plus pm. went to play cards with the guys group and then went to attend a welcoming party i think for us ngee ann people. i feel very proud and touched by their efforts to make us feel welcomed and their attempts in speaking english even though most of the times i couldnt intepret what they were saying. all of the china students were very enthusiatic in making us feel at home and entertained. we were split into groups and we were forced to make interactions. haha. but anyway, we made some friends and entertainments begins. there were singing, musical chairs. my favourite was when this china female student was singing. she has a very good voice and it was rather good to hear her. there was also catwalk which were done hilariously. and a female students who is able to dance salsa and cha cha. very impressive. ngee ann people didnt fell below expectations. there was a group who did the indian dance. it was a very good effort done on their part. and there was also chris group who sang and others were cheering. shu gen really has a good voice. and lastly, mr chua was singing. rather impressive i must say. overall, i enjoyed tremendously my time during the party and wish to attend more of these events. i learned that in these events, language barriers cant hold you bck as entertainment speaks different languages. i love being there and i feel very entertained.

Sunday, March 15, 2009

day twelve

We had breakfast in the morning as usual. I had my own breakfast of course. We had to wake up early and pack our things. By 7.20am, we had finished packing all our things and then we went to pass our room keys to the tour guide. We finally alight at our destination and took a bus back to the hostel. It was still a four to five hours journey with a small break where we shop at a small supermarket where we bought things to eat on the bus. i am so tired when we finally reached our destination. My back was aching so badly however the pain did not stop us from playing volleyball and captain’s ball. It was fun and almost everyone was competitive. We had alot of fun and finally we went back to our dorm, we went to take a bath and we went to KFC for dinner. Finally had a decent meal that i truly enjoy. Haha. Then had meeting. And i finally finish my lab 2 for my APPG. Nights

day eleven

Had breakfast. Actually i didn’t eat as i had no appetite nor do the food look appetizing at all. Luckily i was smart enough to bring food like cream puffs and oreos. I had my very own breakfast and i ate my medicines for motion sickness which was bought by Mr Chua. Thank you very much and thanks to you i feel so much better. After breakfast, went to board another boat and it brought as to place where there are a lot of small boats. The journey took around 1hour. Then we board the small boats and there were people rowing to and fro some places. The woman or tour guide was talking in Chinese. I have no idea what was going on. It suck being a malay, not knowing what your surrounding is. If i ever to get lost, i doubt i was able to even get back to the hostel or anywhere else. Then we board the boat again and it send us back to our cruise. We rested and then we alight to board a bus where it took us to a temple. We had to climb a lot of flights of stairs before we reach a small museum. We took a lot of pictures and then we went back to our boat for dinner. And then sleep.

day ten

I woke up early in the morning and off we went for a bus ride for about four to five hours. My back was aching so badly that i nearly wished i never have to sit down again. Well anyway, to avoid motion sickness, i slept through the whole journey. It was rather nice actually. Haha. Well, we went to eat lunch at a restaurant. The food was rather nice especially the fish dishes that was served. Yummy. I thought i was going to sit alone among strangers as i knew no one who had declared no beef no park. Well, i learned how to be optimistic in situations like this. I was gladly surprised when my friend Kang Liang and Arvind too had declared their food preferences. Then all of us went to the three Gorges dam. The scenery was very nice and all. It was a surprise that it had just finish construction this year. I was happy i was able to view it during my trip here in china. After that, we went to eat at the same restaurant for dinner. Dinner was alright for me. However Sebastian found pork in one of the dishes and made a complaint. I learned to accept things they are and not to be too demanding. Once you set a mood, everyone would follow. So if one of your group member’s is feeling down, your other group members would feel it too. After dinner, we rushed to our cruise ship as we were late for an hour i think. The cruise wasn’t as bad as i think it was. It didn’t feel bumpy at all nor do i feel sick. I was happy. Anyway, it was rather windy and cold but fortunately, i brought enough clothings. After exploring the boat and some interactions with ngee ann students from LSCT school, i went to sleep happily with a smile on my face. Im getting more optimistic by the days go. Improvement

day nine

We had APPG in the morning. Then had IS presentation in the afternoon but were released early around 3plus pm. We had lunch and then in the evening we had a friendly basketball match between the china students here. At first we were losing. Everyone’s hope were on those playing so hard. However the second half gets better. I was getting excited and was shouting and cheering for the players. Players like Wen Hao, Shu Gen, Kenneth and Jeremy are worth mentioning. It was obvious from their faces that they were playing so hard and win that friendly match. Their efforts were proven fruitful. We were victorious! My group and Wen Hao’s group had a celebration dinner. Then i was busy packing for the next day’s trip which was a cruise. I was scared as i knew i had seasick. I was afraid i was going to be sick and cant moved about in the ship. Hais. There was alot to pack for a three days 2 nights trip. I don’t know which was necessary or otherwise. I learned to make decisions and learn how to pack my things for a trip as usually my things are packed by my mom. I finally know how to do it by myself
